<p>The Freborg Homestead near Underwood in McLean County, North Dakota was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. The listed property is 10.5 acre that includes the farm buildings, out of what once was a 160 acre homestead.</p><br>
<p>It was the homestead of Swedish immigrant John Freborg, who took that last name after arriving in America, and his wife Alida Younquist, also a Swedish immigrant but whom he met in North Dakota, and eventually their children. They brought a daughter born in Bismark and had six sons born on the homestead.</p><br>
<p>The Freborgs were eventually able to own a 1914 Overland touring car. John got sick and died relatively young; the Great Depression was hard on the family.</p><br>
<p>The house is a gable-front T-shaped residence with enclosed porches which is 26 x in plan. The barn, built just before the house, is 60 x. Other structures are a chicken coop, a stock building, a granary, a grain bin, a granary/log cabin/equipment</p><br>
<p>storage building, a triple garage, a smokehouse, a pump, and a windmill.</p><br>
<p>John was born in Svartaback, Linneryd, Sweden on December 20, 1871 and immigrated in 1893. Alida was born Landeryd, Sweden on November 16, 1878, her family brought her to the USA in 1883. They were married January 1, 1896.</p><br>
<p>The Downtown Allegan Historic District is a primarily commercial historic district, roughly bounded by Trowbridge, Locust, Hubbard, Brady, and Water Streets, in Allegan, Michigan. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The central portion of Allegan was platted in 1835. What is now the central business district began to developed in the late 1830s and 1840s, and was greatly enhanced by the opening of railroad lines in 1868-71. An 1869 fire cleared a large portion of Brady Street, allowing the 1870 construction of the Chaffee House, a three-story hotel. However, a devastating fire in March 1884 wiped out nearly the entire business district, leaving only a few buildings standing on Brady, including the Chaffee House. Nearly the entire business district was rebuilt in 1884-85.</p><br>
<p>A fire in 1902 destroyed the Chaffee block, and some of the other structures have been renovated of replaced in the years since the 1880s. However, the late 19th century character of the district remains largely intact.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Downtown Allegan Historic District contains sixty-nine structures, fifty-seven of which contribute to the historic character of the district. A handful of the buildings pre-date the 1884 fire. These include a simple false-front structure at 422 Water Street, built in 1855, and the string of stores at 135, 145, 149, and 155 Brady, all constructed in 1874.</p><br>
<p>The bulk of the buildings in the district were built in the 1880s. These are typically two-story late Victorian brick commercial structures. Many of these have original upper facades, but store entrance levels have been remodeled. A last group of buildings in the district were built in the very early 1900s.</p><br>
<p>The Griswold Civic Center Historic District is a small historic district containing eight civic and religious buildings, roughly bounded by Hubbard, Walnut, and Trowbridge Streets, in Allegan, Michigan. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The original 1837 Allegan Company platting of the community provided a large plat of land as a public square. In 1839-41, the county constructed a jail and associated residence on the square, and added a brick county office building in 1847. A larger jail was built in 1861, and larger office building in 1871. In 1889, the county built a large courthouse in the center of the square. The jail was replaced one more time in 1905-06 with the present structure.</p><br>
<p>In the meantime, three church congregations constructed their churches surrounding the square. The United Methodist Church was founded in 1836, and in 1905 constructed the present building, the third on the same site. The First Baptist Church was established in 1841 and built the current structure in 1892-93. The Church of the Good Shepherd was founded in 1859 and still uses their original church building, constructed in 1867-69.</p><br>
<p>In the early twentieth century, Allegan&#39;s population increased, growing 20% between 1911 and 1917. IN 1913, community leaders obtained a $10,000 grant from the Carnegie Foundation to construct a new library. Plans were prepared by Grant Miller, a Chicago architect, and the library was constructed in 1914. Later, in 1981, local philanthropist Marilla Griswold left $100,000 to the city to build an auditorium and general meeting place. Despite delays, the Griswold Memorial Auditorium was completed until 1929.</p><br>
<p>The county replaced the courthouse with a modern structure in 1960-61. In 1962, a new jail was built, and the old jail used for other things.</p><br>

<p>The small Griswold Civic Center Historic District contains eight structures situated around the courthouse square. These include:</p><br>
<h3>Old School</h3><br>
<p>This building, constructed in 1836, is located at 325-27 Hubbard Street. It is a two-story structure with flank gables. The school was originally located a block from the square but was moved to its present location in the late 19th century. It served later as a boarding house, and has been converted to offices.</p><br>
<h3>Carnegie Library</h3><br>
<p>This building, constructed in 1914, is located at 331 Hubbard Street. It was designed by Chicago architect Grant Miller. It is a single-story brick Craftsman building with a tile-covered hipped roof and fieldstone foundation. A larger 1975 addition is located to the rear.</p><br>
<h3>Griswold Memorial Auditorium</h3><br>
<p>This building, constructed in 1929, is located at 401 Hubbard Street. It is a two-story asymmetrical brick building with limestone trim.</p><br>
<h3>Church of the Good Shepherd</h3><br>
<p>This building, constructed in 1867-69, is located at 101 Walnut Street. The building was designed by Gordon W. Lloyd. It is a frame, Gothic Revival church with a steeply pitched gable roof and a tall, pyramid-roof belfry. It is clad with vertical, board-and-batten siding and narrow lancet windows. A 1902 brick parish house is located next door.</p><br>
<h3>Old Allegan County Sheriff's Residence and Jail</h3><br>
<p>This building, constructed in 1905-1906, is located at 113 Walnut Street. It is a large red brick, Queen Anne/Colonial Revival structure with an octagonal corner tower and a Tuscan-column front porch. The building now serves as the county historical museum.</p><br>
<h3>United Methodist Church</h3><br>
<p>This building, constructed in 1905, is located at 401 Trowbridge Street. It is a Romanesque Revival building faced with random ashlar with a square corner tower.</p><br>
<h3>First Baptist Church</h3><br>
<p>This building, constructed in 1892, is located at 330 Trowbridge Street. It was designed by Bay City architect Dillon P. Clark. It is square orange brick Romanesque Revival structure with a tower at the street corner. A modern parish house addition is connected to one side.</p><br>
<p>Brookwood North Historic District in Valdosta, Georgia is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The listing included 218 contributing buildings and a contributing site, as well as 88 non-contributing buildings. Its 175 acre area is roughly bounded by Patterson St., Georgia Ave., Oak St., Park Ave., Williams St. and Brookwood Dr.</p><br>
<p>The district includes architectural work by Lloyd B. Greer, Felton Davis, and others.</p><br>
<p>It includes 48 homes designed by Greer, a local Valdosta architect, including his own home at 114 Alden Street. Three English Vernacular Revival-style houses by him, named "Faith", "Hope", and "Charity" are along East Alden and have large front-gabled facades and steeply-pitched roofs. Another of Greer&#39;s works is the International-style house at 1407 Williams Street.</p><br>
<p>It includes the entirety of three areas developed as subdivisions:</p><br>
<p>Pine Park/Victory Subdivision, developed in 1921, a four-block area north of East Alden</p><br>
<p>Moore-West Land Company, developed in 1923, area of Patterson St., Georgia Ave., and Park Ave.</p><br>
<p>Dasher-West Subdivision, developed in 1927.</p><br>
<p>Pigeon Island is a small island, in Lake Ontario, near Kingston Ontario.</p><br>
<p>The island had been a navigational hazard since the founding of Kingston, Ontario. A lighthouse was first built on Pigeon Island in 1870.</p><br>
<p>Vessels wrecked on or near the island, prior to the construction of the lighthouse, include: the General Brock wrecked in 1846; the Royal Susan, in 1853; the Governor in 1862; the Young America in 1863; and the Annexation in 1866.</p><br>
<p>The island covers about 5 hectare. Shallow soil and bird guano cover a limestone base.</p><br>
<p>The island supports a large population of birds.</p><br>
<p>The original lighthouse was the first built in what came to be known as the "schoolhouse style", where the lighthouse tower was integrated into the lightkeeper&#39;s cottage. The current lighthouse is a steel frame.</p><br>
<p>The Marshall Street Historic District is a primarily residential historic district located at 231-237, 335-705, and 232-630 Marshall Street in Allegan, Michigan. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Marshall Street Historic District is located on approximately seven city blocks along Marshall Street. It contains 57 structures, 56 of which contribute to the historic character of the district. Houses in the district are built in a range of architectural styles, including bungalows, Queen Anne, Italianate, and Colonial Revival houses, with some Dutch Colonial Revival, American Foursquare, and Greek Revival included. Most of the houses are wood frame covered with clapboard, although there are some houses built of brick or other construction.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Marshall Street was originally an Indian trail, and when Allegan was founded in the 1830s the trail was surveyed and improved. By 1852, the increasing traffic necessitated improvement, and a plank road was installed. As Allegan grew, residents began to build homes along Marshall, and the earliest buildings in the district were constructed (or moved to their current site) in the 1860s. In 1869, Alby Rossman constructed his home at 524 Marshall, and platted the surrounding area as the "Rossman Addition." Rossmans house anchors the center of the district. Rossmans construction precipitated a boom in house building along Marshall Street, with a number of both well-to-do and middle class families building houses in the area after the Civil War.</p><br>
<p>Allegan&#39;s growth slowed in the latter part of the 19th century, and few of the hoses in the district date from the 1880s or 1890s. After the turn of the century, construction again picked up, with more houses built. Significantly, in 1890 the "John Robinson Hospital" (now the Elks Club) was built at the southern end of the district. A number of bungalows were built in the district in the 1910s and 1920s.</p><br>
<p>Scotch Bonnet Island is a small island in Lake Ontario. It is part of Prince Edward County, Ontario.</p><br>
<p>The island is a low, bare, limestone outcropping, approximately 4 km off the western shore of the Quinte peninsula. It is named after Scotch Bonnet Ridge, a nearby glacial feature, a north-south belt of glacio-lacustrine clay and till.</p><br>
<p>The possibility of operating a lighthouse on the island as early as 1844. Funds were found to construct a lighthouse after the Christiana was wrecked on the Island, in 1851.</p><br>
<p>A traditional stone lighthouse was first erected on the island in 1856. It was replaced with a steel navigation tower in 1959. Ownership of the island was transferred to the Canadian Wildlife Service in 1979, after the Department of Transport declared it surplus. Later that year it was named the Scotch Bonnet Island National Wildlife Area.</p><br>
<p>Like other similar islands, the island is an important resting spot for birds migrating across the lake. During breeding season large numbers of waterbirds, like herring gulls and double-crested cormorants, raise their young on the island.</p><br>
<p>Monte António Gomes is a mountain located in the northeastern part of the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde 4 km from the capital Mindelo and mostly forms a part of the northernmost portion of Monte Verde, it does not belong to its nearby natural part but borders it. Its elevation is 362 meters taller than any summits north of the island capital Mindelo and forming the top ten or twenty small summits of the island. The mountain belongs to the settlement area of Baía das Gatas which includes its summit, the western part is in the village area of Salamansa.</p><br>
<p>The Mindelo-Baía das Gatas Road (EN2-ST02) runs in the northwest portion and northeast and east what was a small road, today it is EN2-SV03 connecting with Calhau opened around 2014.</p><br>
<p>The mountain is of volcanic origin and is made up of what was a small volcanic crater that was a subsidiary vent hundreds of thousands of years ago.</p><br>
<p>East of the small mountain is a small hamlet known as Norte da Baia (as there is another to the south, it is commonly as António Gomes in which it gives its name to) belonging to Baía das Gatas, northeast is Salamansa&#39;s cemetery, northeast of the foot of the mountain is the reforested area of Baía das Gatas.</p><br>
<p>Grasslands and shrubs dominate the mountain area, an endangered flowering plant Limonium jovibarba are founded, in areas more than 50 meters of elevation.</p><br>
<p>Its geology forms a part of the Monte Verde rock formation which extends to the peninsula&#39;s area.</p><br>
<p>During the Middle Ice Age, its elevation was about 500 meters, up to about 4000 BC, the elevation was at 400 meters.</p><br>
<h2>Panoramics</h2><br>
<p>Panoramics are offered including many parts of the island including the north, the east and west. Also almost all of the south of the nearby island of Santo Antão can be seen.</p><br>
<p>Kaluđerski Skokovi  is the highest waterfall in Serbia. It is located on the Stara Planina mountain in southeast Serbia. Only discovered in 2012, it is 232 m high, which is over twice more than the Kopren Waterfall, previously the highest waterfall in Serbia, which itself was discovered only a year earlier.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The Kaluđerski Skokovi falls are situated in the area of the Topli Do village, northeast of the city of Pirot, to which it administratively belongs. The waterfall is located just southwest of the Midžor peak on the Stara Planina mountain, close to the border with Bulgaria.</p><br>
<h2>Characteristics</h2><br>
<p>The waterfall is located on the river of Kaluđerska reka, which flows into the Rakitska reka, which in turn forms the Toplodolska reka with the Javorska reka.</p><br>
<p>The waterfall is 232 m high, 404 m long and is a typical cascade waterfall. On average, the inclination of the falls is 55 to 60 degrees, but some sections are almost straight, up to 90 degrees. It has over 20 cascades. The Midžor itself is 2,169 m high, and the waterfall starts at an altitude of 1,554 m and ends at 1,322 m.</p><br>
<h2>Accessibility</h2><br>
<p>The waterfall is hard to access. It is possible to reach it only in the early spring, while the region is still under snow, and with the full rock-climbing equipment. During summer, the already steep rocks grow into the thick, lush vegetation. Due to the topographic relief, Kaluđerski Skokovi in full can only be observed from the air.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Dragovan Stojadinović, amateur explorer who discovered some of the highest waterfalls in Serbia, discovered the Kaluđerski skokovi in 2012. On 9 June 2012 professors from the University of Belgrade&#39;s Faculty of mining and geology and the Institute for nature conservation of Serbia measured the waterfall.</p><br>
<p>Developments in the recent two decades completely changed the geography of Serbia, when it comes to waterfalls. Area of the Stara Planina has always been sparsely populated and inaccessible because of the rugged and forested terrain, but also as a location of the Serbian-Bulgarian border. As armies gradually relinquished the borders keeping to the police, civilians were allowed to explore the area. As a result, higher and higher waterfalls have been discovered on the Serbian side of the Stara Planina since then: Čungulj in 1996 - 43 m; Pilj in 2002 - 64 m; Kopren in 2011 - 103.5 m and Kaluđerski Skokovi in 2012 - 232 m.</p><br>
<p>The Poteau School Gymnasium-Auditorium, located at Walter and Parker Sts. in Poteau in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, was built in 1937. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.</p><br>
<p>It was a project of the Works Progress Administration.</p><br>
<p>It is a two-story 100 x building built of coursed cream-colored native sandstone, with a roof that is flat and gabled and has parapets.</p><br>
<p>Its NRHP nomination describes its importance:The gym/auditorium is significant because is provided space for school and community activities, especially basketball, which fostered a sense of identity and pride lacking in the depression era. Construction of it also provided work opportunities for unskilled and unemployed laborers in the Poteau area where few had existed previously. As a WPA building, the structure is notable for its size/scale. Within the community it is unique architecturally because of its type, style, scale, materials and workmanship.</p><br>
<p>It was one of 48 buildings and 11 structures reviewed in a 1985 study of WPA works in southeastern Oklahoma, which led to almost all of them being listed on the National Register in 1988.</p><br>
<p>The North Patterson Street Historic District is a historic district of 14 "grand homes" on North Patterson Street in Valdosta, Georgia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.</p><br>
<p>The district is 8.3 acre in size and has 14 contributing buildings, all one-story or two-story residences, along 1003 to 1111 N. Patterson Street. All but one of the homes were probably built during 1899 to 1909. The known exception is 1106 North Patterson which was designed by architect Lloyd Greer in 1919 to replace the 1902 J.C. Fender house which was moved and turned to face Mary Street instead (and is still included in the district). The expansion of downtown commercial area has destroyed grand homes which previously were located to the south of this section of Patterson Street.</p><br>
<p>It includes Classical Revival, Stick/Eastlake, and Victorian Eclectic architecture. Classical Revival is represented by 1007 North Patterson Street, which has a monumental portico with Corinthian columns.</p><br>
<p>The John and Isabella Hooker House is a historic house at 140 Hawthorn Street in Hartford, Connecticut. Built in the 1850s and twice enlarged, it is a distinctive and large example of Italianate country villa architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Hooker House is located in Hartford&#39;s Asylum Hill neighborhood, near the southern end of a block bounded by Forest, Hawthorn, and South Marshall Streets. It is set back from each of these roads, and its location is obscured by apartment buildings that have been built on its former estate grounds. It is a large 2-1/2 story brick building trimmed in brownstone, with a roughly L-shaped plan. It has a gabled roof encrusted with a variety of projecting dormers and gable sections. All of these are adorned with carved vergeboard, which effectively encircles the building. Windows in these projections are Gothic lancet-style pointed arch windows.</p><br>
<p>The land for the house, then farmland, was bought in 1853 by John and Isabella Hooker, and construction of the house took place afterward. It was designed in the Italian villa style popularized by Andrew Jackson Downing and Calvert Vaux. In the 1860s it was enlarged to a plan by Octavius Jordan, a local builder also credited with construction of the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. It was the first house to be built in the Nook Farm part of Hartford, where a number of similar fine country villas were built, including the Stowe house and the Mark Twain House. Originally 1-1/2 stories in height, the roof was raised in 1906 to add a stylistically sympathetic second story.</p><br>
<p>Weller&#39;s Bay is a small bay on Lake Ontario. In 1861 the Government of the Province of Canada considered making it a "harbour of refuge", and installing a lighthouse.</p><br>
<p>During World War 2 the beach was part of the Consecon Air Weapons Range and was used as a firing range, for pilot-trainees.</p><br>
<p>In 1978 the Wellers Bay National Wildlife Area was created. Subsequently, locals used to using the area for fishing, snowmobiling, and other recreational uses started clashing with officials charged with a responsibility to protect wildlife. In the 1990s officials started issuing fines. Municipal politicians tried negotiating a relaxation of the rules, without success. On May 27, 2011, the Canadian Wildlife Service announced the bays beaches would be off limits.</p><br>
<p>A key 83 hectare of the 8 km bay are set aside as a National Wildlife Area, including Bald Island, Bald Head Island, Fox Island, and the sandspit that protects the bay, because the sandspit that protected the bay was one of the last undeveloped spits on the great lakes, and it was an important bird habitat. No one is allowed on this portion of the bay, without a permit.</p><br>
<p>The Skullyville County Jail, located west of Panama in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, was built in 1907. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.</p><br>
<p>It is a small building with two-foot-thick sandstone walls, and was built by contractor Elija W. Fannin. Its only ventilation is by its doorway and by a small window, 12 x in size, which has two sets of iron bars in it. Its door is a lattice of iron bars, which cost $55.65 from the firm of Sengel and Shulte. The jail has its original dirt floor, but has a newer roof, now covered in corrugated tin. It is significant as the only remaining artifact of the Skullyville County Government in the Choctaw Nation; a courthouse located to the north of the jail was burned in 1949.</p><br>

<p>Malala-Ambilikala lagoons  are two interconnected coastal water-bodies located inside the Bundala National Park, Hambantota District in the Southern Province, Sri Lanka. It is 260 km from Colombo to the arid south. The Malala-Ambilikala lagoons are two of the three key lagoons located within the Bundala Ramsar wetlands.</p><br>
<h2>Features</h2><br>
<p>The Malala – Ambilikala lagoon system is the main lagoon system situated in one of the three Ramsar sites within Sri Lanka, the Bundala National Park. The two lagoons are interconnected by a 3.1 km long, meandering incised channel called ‘Ooday’ (ඌඩේ) in Sinhalese.</p><br>
<p>Both the Malala and Ambilikala lagoons are shallow water bodies with average depths of 1.01 m and 0.93 m respectively. The water surface area of the Malala and Ambilikala lagoons are 650 hectare and 430 hectare respectively.</p><br>
<p>While the Ambilikala lagoon is an inland freshwater lagoon with no direct outfall to the sea, the Malala (Saltern ලේවාය), as its name implies, is a lagoon which has a direct connection with the Indian Ocean at the Malala sea outfall (මෝදර).</p><br>
<p>Inputs to the Ambilikala and Malala lagoons include agricultural drainage, runoff with cattle refuse, and salt water when the sand bar between the Malala Lagoon and the sea is breached. The main freshwater supplies of Ambilikala lagoon are streams such as Weligatta Aara, Sundiram Aara, Ethuklbokka Aara, Right Bank Channel of the Lunugamvehera Reservoir, Kirindi Oya Irrigation and Settlement Project (KOISP), and surface drainage and overflow from tanks such as Bandagiriya, Keligama wewa, Julgamuwala (Divulgama) wewa, Arabedda, Udamalala wewa. The total hydro-catchment of the lagoon system is about 402 km&sup2;.</p><br>
<h2>Environmental problems</h2><br>
<p>The hydrological, ecological and biological condition of the Malala and Ambilikala lagoon systems started to change rapidly with irrigation, agriculture, and human settlements in the upstream area, especially water quality problems affected the functioning of the lagoon ecosystem. The Kirindi Oya Irrigation Settlement Project expanded the irrigation area from 4,200 hectare to 10,450 hectare during the early 1990s which located upstream of the Bundala National Park. The Malala and Ambilikala lagoons were severely affected by the modified drainage flows from the Kirindi Oya Irrigation Settlement Project and the Bandagiriya irrigation scheme. The estimated monthly load of total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) in to the Malala-Ambilikala lagoon system from the agricultural drainage were 6,490 kg and 620 kg respectively. An extinction of species and changes to habitat diversity were also observed in the lagoon system due to water quality changes. In addition to that, Increasing inflows and decreasing salinity in the lagoon water has caused severe socio-economic problems to the people who relies lagoon resources for livelihoods. A decline in shrimp (Metapenaueus sp.and Penaeus sp.) and new fish species (Alectis ciliaris and Etroplus suratensis) with less commercial value were observed due to a significant decrease in salinity levels.</p><br>

<p>Mount Luyendyk is a summit in the western Fosdick Mountains of the Ford Ranges of Marie Byrd Land, West Antarctica. It forms a prominent exposure in the northwestern Iphigene massif. The peak is named in recognition of Bruce P. Luyendyk, professor , University of California,Santa Barbara, who was active in ground- and ocean-based Antarctic research from 1989-2015, significantly advancing the scientific knowledge of the Ross Embayment region of Antarctica. Luyendyk led two on-land expeditions in the Ford Ranges, and was principal investigator for five marine geophysical expeditions in the Ross Sea.</p><br>
<p>In December, 1989, geologists of the UC Santa Barbara FORCE expedition traveled by snowmobile-sledge to Mt. Luyendyk, for the purpose of sampling for rock magnetism, petrology, and geochronology studies. Between 2005 and 2012, geologists from Colorado College, University of Maryland, and Curtin University (Perth) returned to Mt. Luyendyk for structural geology and petrology investigations.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>Mt. Luyendyk consists of migmatite gneiss and plutonic rocks within the Fosdick Mountains gneiss dome/core complex. The rocks constitute an exposure of the middle crust that was exhumed approximately 100 million years ago, during the Cretaceous Period, by action on the Fosdick Mountains detachment fault.</p><br>
<p>The Sam Rayburn Library and Museum is a public research center, library, and museum at 800 West Sam Rayburn Drive in Bonham, Texas. It was built in 1957 as a working library and research center for Sam Rayburn , the influential United States Congressman who holds the record as the longest-serving Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. The building, designed by Roscoe DeWitt, is the most prominent example of Classical Revival architecture in Fannin County, expressly evoking the Classical architecture of Washington, DC. The library is now operated as part of the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, part of the University of Texas at Austin.</p><br>
<p>The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.</p><br>
<p>Tregeiriog House, Llanishen, Monmouthshire is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th or early 17th centuries. Enlarged in the late 17th century, it was remodelled in the mid-18th century, when it was the home of the Duke of Beaufort&#39;s local agent. Still a private residence, it is a Grade II* listed building.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The present house has origins in the late 16th or early 17th century, although there is evidence of earlier occupation. In 1749, the farm was owned by Daniel Tregose, Sheriff of Monmouthshire in 1756. The architectural historian John Newman notes that the house was the home to the Duke of Beaufort&#39;s agent in the mid-18th century. By the 20th century the house was in a state of complete dilapidation, but a significant repair programme commenced in 2012. The cellars of the house are home to a colony of</p><br>
<p>Lesser horseshoe bats and are designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).</p><br>
<h2>Architecture and description</h2><br>
<p>John Newman considers the oldest part of the house to be the rear cross-wing. Cadw suggests that the five-bay frontage was added in the mid-18th century, intended to unify the appearance of the house. Newman calls it a, "typical 18th century manoeuvre". The interior was significantly remodelled at the same time, and Cadw considers that the extensive cellars were constructed during this remodelling.</p><br>
<p>The Sulgener Berg, also called the Sulger Berg, is a mountain, in the Black Forest in Germany. It is located near Sulgen , a village in the borough of Schramberg in the Baden-Württemberg county of Rottweil. It lies within the Central/North Black Forest Nature Park.</p><br>
<p>The Sulgener Berg, which rises south of the village of Sulgen and west of the hamlet of Schoren, is often associated with the hamlet of Hutneck to the south and referred to as Sulgen&#39;s local mountain. At the top is the Sulgen Water Tower, which was built in 1960. Until its incorporation into the municipality of Tennenbronn in 2006 the mountain was one of the highest points in the parish of Schramberg. In 1875 the Vogthof of Sulgener Berg was built on the mountain. On the same site today is the hotel restaurant of Drei Könige.</p><br>

<p>Bewholme Vicarage, in the village of Bewholme, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, is a former vicarage designed by the architect William Burges in 1859. It is a Grade II listed building and is now a private residence.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Burges designed the vicarage in 1859. His patron appears to be unrecorded. Pevsner notes the vicarage is "a somewhat surprising house to find in a small Holderness village". In the following year, Burges also drew up designs for the parish church but these were not executed.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The vicarage is of red brick with a seven-bay frontage. Anthony Jennings describes the building as in Burges&#39;s "eccentric Northern French fairytale style". Its interior retains "many original features, including the staircase and a number of fireplaces". The building is Grade II listed.</p><br>
<p>Panguan Island is an island in the municipality of Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi. With an area of 0.06 km&sup2;. It is also known as Malamanok, coming from the Sama-Bajau dialect which means eat chicken as locals who travel to Sabah usually use this island as a stop-over to eat roasted chicken prior continuing their journey to Malaysia. It is the last island of the Sulu Archipelago nearest the Philippine-Malaysian border.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Panguan Island was used as a hideout by the Abu Sayyaf terror group until it was liberated by the 10th Marines Battalion Landing Team (MBLT-10) of the Philippine Marine Corps after the surrender of eleven high-ranking Abu Sayyaf leaders of Tawi-Tawi in April 2017.</p><br>
<p>The Philippine flag was hoisted on the island last 29 April 2017 to signify control of the Philippine government.</p><br>
<p>The Geißkopf is a foothill, near Berghaupten in the south German state of Baden-Württemberg. During the Migration Period there was evidently a Roman or Germanic military camp on the strategically placed heights.</p><br>
<h2>Location and area</h2><br>
<p>The Geißkopf stands at the exit of the Kinzig valley on the Rhine Plain and rises above it by around 200 metres. It forms the northeastern end of the Bellenwald. Nearby villages are Berghaupten to the southeast, Ohlsbach to the northeast and Zunsweier to the northwest. The hill is covered by mixed woods and accessible to just below the summit by a road and forest tracks</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>An area of about 100 to 150 metres, part of which is level, provided a good site for a settlement in former times, something which was exploited because of its strategically advantageous location. To the east, north and south, the hillsides descend relatively steeply, while to the west a saddle about 25 metres deep connects it to the edge of the Black Forest. There are no remains of a bank or ditch on the ground, but some stray archaeological finds of military belts dating to Late Antiquity that have found since 1989, prove that the Geißkopf was populated in the 4th and 5th centuries A.D. A small part of the rounded hilltop was then archaeologically examined, although no obvious building remains were found. However, a phosphorus analysis of the soil showed that the mountain was either used intensively for an extended period of time or at least temporarily housed a large number of people and their animals. More than 1,300 iron or bronze objects spread evenly over the entire surface, reveal an intensive use of the area. Numerous weapons, such as lance tips, axes, arrow and bolt tips, as well as late Roman military belt parts, and various Germanic and Roman fibulae were found. Some of the lancet tips have been bent, suggesting that they had been fighting. Various tools, such as those used in woodworking or forging, were also found in large numbers amongst the excavated material. It is noticeable that in contrast, hardly any pottery was uncovered and there was virtually no women&#39;s jewelry. Thus, in contrast to the opposing Kügeleskopf (north of the Kinzig), it seems to have acted purely as a military camp.</p><br>
<p>The Rinkenkopf is a mountain, on the territory of Baiersbronn in the Northern Black Forest. The wooded mountain ridge is bounded in the south by the Murg valley and in the northeast by the valley of the Tonbach. To the northwest a roughly 50-metre-deep saddle  separates it from the foothills of the Grindenschwarzwald.</p><br>
<p>On the mountain are the Rinkenwall (Rinkenmauer), Rinken Tower (Rinkenturm) and two transmission towers. Several hiking trails lead there, including the Murgleiter and der Genießerpfad to the Sattelei Hut.</p><br>
<h2>Rinkenwall</h2><br>
<p>At the top of the mountain are the remains of a 115-metre-long and up to 40-metre-wide circular rampart. The date it was built and its purpose are unknown. In the gift register (Schenkungsbuch) of Reichenbach Abbey is the first mention of the mountain around 1100: in monte qui Rincga vocatur. The ring-shaped earthworks were probably already in existence at this time and gave the mountain its name.</p><br>
<h2>Rinken Tower (King William Tower)</h2><br>
<p>In 1914, the Württemberg Black Forest Club erected a 16-metre-high observation tower at the southeastern end of the mountain ridge. Originally named the King William Tower (König-Wilhelms-Turm) after the Württemberg king, William II, it is now known as the Rinken Tower (Rinkenturm). Since the early 1980s the tower has been owned by the municipality of Baiersbronn. It has periodically also been used as a transmission tower.</p><br>
<p>The Anglican Church of St James the Great in Fitzhead, Somerset, England was built in the 15th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The church was built in the 15th century from which the tower survives. The three-bay nave and chancel were rebuilt in 1849 and a vestry added in 1863. The north aisle was added in 1887. Next to the church is a medieval tithe barn.</p><br>
<p>The parish is part of the Milverton with Halse, Fitzhead and Ash Priors benefice within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The red sandstone building has hamstone dressings. The three stage tower is supported by diagonal buttresses.</p><br>
<p>Inside the church is a 15th-century rood screen. In 2009 ceramic panels by local potter John Watt, depicting local scenes, were installed in the church.</p><br>
<p>In the churchyard is a 14th-century grey sandstone cross which was restored in 1908. As well as being a listed building it has been scheduled as an ancient monument.</p><br>
<p>Several of the tombs in the churchyard are also listed, including the late 17th century chest tombs of Ann Brulard, and Mary Byam. There are also unidentified tombs from the 17th and 18th centuries,</p><br>
<p>The gates and gatepiers were installed in the early 19th century.</p><br>
<p>The Anglican Church of St Leonard in Otterford, Somerset, England was built in the 14th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.</p><br>

<p>The church was built in the 14th century on the site of an earlier church. In 1158 Henry of Blois, the Bishop of Winchester, granted the Chapel of Otriforde to the Taunton Priory.</p><br>
<p>The church underwent Victorian restoration in 1860.</p><br>
<p>The parish is part of the Blackdown benefice within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The limestone building has hamstone dressings. It has a three-bay nave and north aisle along with a chancel and vestry. The chancel barrel vault roof was built in the 16th century. Over the porch is a sundial.</p><br>
<p>The two-stage tower is 50 ft high and supported by diagonal buttresses.</p><br>
<p>The J. F. Eesley Milling Co. Flour Mill–Elevator  was built as a flour mill located at 717 East Bridge Street in Plainwell, Michigan. The building has been renovated and houses a brewpub. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The building which houses the flour mill at this site was originally built in about 1869 at a site on the south side of Bridge Street, purportedly to house a roller rink. The elevator was built at this site in about 1870-73 by an original owner who has not been identified. In 1891, John F. Eesley (then the operator of the nearby D. B. Merrill flour mill) partnered with three other local entrepreneurs to establish the Sunshine Flour mill at the Bridge Street site. In 1903, Eesley moved the mill building from its original site to the current site, joining it to the elevator which was already at this location. He renovated both buildings to create a single structure.</p><br>
<p>At its height, the mill produced 600 barrels of buckwheat flour per day, making it the second largest producer of buckwheat flour in the nation. Eesley operated the mill at this site until his death in 1929. Shortly after, the mill was taken over by the Plainwell Elevator Company. The Plainwell Elevator Company operated the building until at least the 1990s. The building has been renovated and houses a brewpub.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Eesley Mill and Elevator consists of two structures built separately and joined in 1903. The entire structure is a three-story building with a broad fronted and a massive timber frame. The mill section has a gable roof, the elevator part a gambrel roof. An addition that has a slightly sloping roofline connects the two portions of the structure. The exterior is covered with clapboard siding, and has double-hung, square-head, sash windows. A cinder block loading platform sheltered with an overhang runs the length of the building on one side. There is a single-story extension at the back of the elevator building.</p><br>
<p>140 and 144 Retreat Avenue is a historic conjoined pair of houses in Hartford, Connecticut. Built in 1844 and 1851, the two houses are the only surviving reminders of the street&#39;s 19th-century streetscape. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Retreat Avenue is a historically old road, connecting Hartford and Farmington in the 17th century. Its name derives from a facility for treatment of the insane that opened in the 1820s, that now operates as The Institute of Living, just southwest of numbers 140 and 144 on the south side of the road. The Institute is now part of Hartford Hospital, whose main campus stands across the street. The pair of Greek Revival houses present a marked contrast to this institutional setting. They occupy adjacent lots just east of the junction of Retreat Avenue and Essex Street. Both houses are 2-1/2 stories in height, and of wood frame construction finished in clapboards. Number 140 is the more easterly of the two: it has a hip roof, and its main entrance is sheltered by a flat-roof portico with fluted Doric columns. A two-story ell extends to its rear. Number 144 stands at the street corner, and has a gabled roof with an oblong multipane window in the gable pediment. The main entrance is on the four-bay side facing Essex Street, in the center-right bay, and lacks adornment. The two buildings are joined by a single-story wood-frame hyphen near the rear of the main blocks.</p><br>
<p>144 Retreat Avenue was built in 1845 on land owned by Joseph Barnes, and was apparently built by members of the Camp family, local builders and joiners. 140 Retreat Avenue was built sometime between 1851 and 1856, when it was owned by Bogardus Beardslee, a clothier who worked downtown. Although both of the adjacent medical institutions existed at the time, the blocks of Retreat Avenue and Essex Avenue were basically residential until after World War II, when expansion pressures from the hospitals resulted in the demolition of most of the housing there for commercial hospital-related uses.</p><br>
<p>The Hyde-St. John House is a historic house at 25 Charter Oak Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. Built in 1858, it is one of the city&#39;s least-altered examples of Italianate architecture, and it was home to prominent local attorney and city mayor William Waldo Hyde. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and is presently in commercial use.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Hyde-St. John House is located in Hartford&#39;s Sheldon-Charter Oak neighborhood, on the south side of Charter Oak Avenue, between the former Temple Beth Israel (now the Charter Oak Cultural Center), and the location of the historic Charter Oak tree. It is a three-story brick structure, basically square in shape, with a flat roof that has a prominent projecting eave supported by brackets placed on either side of the three window bays. Windows on the first two floors are set in rectangular openings with brownstone sills and lintels, while the shorter third-floor windows have rounded tops. A single-story porch extends across the front, with rounded projections in the side bays, and clustered columns mounted on moulded blocks for support. The main entrance is flanked by pilasters and sidelight windows, and toppedy by a decorative rounded fanlight; there are carved wooden oak leaves in the spandrels above the fanlight. The interior features relatively unaltered original woodwork and plaster. A period two-story ell extends to the rear of the main block.</p><br>
<p>The house was built in 1858. It was home to William Waldo Hyde from 1881 to 1896. Hyde was from a prominent local family, and was a principal in one of the city&#39;s oldest law firms. From 1892 to 1894 he served as Mayor of Hartford. The Waldo and Hyde families also owned other adjacent properties during this time, essentially creating a small family compound. The building underwent restoration in the 1970s, and now houses a commercial business.</p><br>
<p>The Ensenada de Mompiche  is a bay on the Pacific coast of northern Ecuador.</p><br>
<p>The bay is in the Esmeraldas Province.</p><br>
<p>Parts of the bay are fringed by mangroves of the Manabí mangroves ecoregion.</p><br>
<p>The low-keyed Muisne resort is in the northern part of the bay, on a 7 km sand bar among the mangroves of the Muisne River estuary.</p><br>
<p>It may be reached by ferry across the Muisne Rive from the small town of El Relleno.</p><br>
<p>Mompiche village at the south of the bay can be reached by a 6 km potholed road from the Via del Pacifico (Ecuador Highway 15).</p><br>
<p>Its accessibility has led to small hotels and hostels being built, primarily for low-income surfers.</p><br>
<p>The broad Mompiche Beach is almost 6 km long and has fine white/gold sand.</p><br>
<p>It extends north from the small fishing village of Mompiche to the river estuary at Muisne.</p><br>
<p>It is a popular place for surfing, and ecotourism is also popuar.</p><br>
<p>The Mache Chundul National Reserve, which contains mangroves and dry forests, is near to the beach.</p><br>
<p>The Cherry DeLefebvre House is a private house located at 115 West Chart Street in Plainwell, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Cherry Delefebvre was born in Paris in 1835, and graduated from the École Polytechnique in 1856. He emigrated to the United States in 1859, taught French in New York City and later fought in the Civil War. After the war, he moved to Chicago and worked in the hotel business, eventually buying his own hotel. In 1873, he married Hannah Crispe, the sister of successful Plainwell businessman and politician John Crispe. Delefebvre sold his hotel in 1891, and he and his wife went on an extended voyage. The couple settled in Plainwell in 1893, and constructed this house the same year.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Cherry DeLefebvre House is a two-story frame structure with a stone foundation and a gable-roof main section and a gabled rear wing. The front gable has a small circular-shaped window below the vergeboard, and is clad with patterned shingling. The main body of the house is clad with clapboard, with a narrow apron of shingling below the second story. A front porch is recessed into one end, and features lathe-turned columns and turned spindles. The windows are double-hung.</p><br>
<p>The interior of the house features the original wood parquet floors in the living room and dining room, as well as original wood doors, molding, door surroundings, and stairway.</p><br>
<p>The Sons of Jacob Cemetery in rural Ramsey County, North Dakota was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017. It was the cemetery of the Garske Colony, a farming community of Jewish immigrant homesteaders which was founded in 1883 and operated until about 1925.</p><br>
<p>Jewish homesteaders came from Russia, where they were not allowed to own land, and tried to survive in harsh conditions in North Dakota. Many built sod houses or tarpaper shacks to live in while attempting to prove their land claims for 160 acre under the Homestead Act.</p><br>
<p>There once were nine rural Jewish cemeteries in North Dakota. The cemetery of the largest Jewish farming community in the state, the Ashley Jewish Homesteaders Cemetery, was listed on the National Register in May 2017. The Garske one, the Ashley one, and ne in Regan are the only three that are "not entirely overgrown" by 2017.</p><br>
<p>Sabancaya is an active 5,976 m stratovolcano in the Andes of southern Peru, about 70 km northwest of Arequipa. It is considered part of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, one of the three distinct volcanic belts of the Andes. It includes a number of volcanoes, some of which like Huaynaputina have had large eruptions and others such as Sabancaya and Ubinas have been active in historical time. Sabancaya forms a volcanic complex together with Hualca Hualca to the north and Ampato to the south and has erupted andesite and dacite. Itself it is covered by a small ice cap which leads to the danger of lahars during eruptions.</p><br>
<p>Sabancaya has generated numerous long lava flows especially during the early Holocene, while activity in the later Holocene has been more explosive. Historical reports indicate eruptions during the 18th century. The volcano awoke back to activity starting from 1986 and culminating into a large eruption in 1990. Since then it has been continuously active with the emission of ash and gas.</p><br>
<h2>Name</h2><br>
<p>The name "Sabancaya" is Quechua and means tongue of fire or spitting volcano, likely a reference to the eruptive activity. The name is attested from 1595, implying that volcanic activity was observed before.</p><br>
<h2>Geography and geomorphology</h2><br>
<p>Sabancaya lies northwest from Arequipa, at a distance of. The important Rio Colca valley is located north of the Sabancaya-Hualca Hualca-Ampato volcano complex.</p><br>
<h3>Regional</h3><br>
<p>The subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate in the Peru-Chile Trench leads to volcanic activity in the Andes. This volcanic activity presently occurs in three segments, the Northern Volcanic Zone, the Central Volcanic Zone and the Southern Volcanic Zone. There is an additional volcanic belt south of the Southern Volcanic Zone, the Austral Volcanic Zone. Sabancaya is located in the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, which extends through southern Peru. Many volcanoes in the Central Volcanic Zone are poorly known, owing to their remote locations and adverse conditions such as high altitude.</p><br>
<p>Sabancaya is part of a series of volcanoes that line the southwestern coast of Peru at a distance of roughly 100 km from the shore. Of these volcanoes, Sabancaya, El Misti, Ubinas, Huaynaputina, Ticsani and Tutupaka were active during historical time. Further volcanoes with Pliocene-Quaternary activity are Sara Sara, Solimana, Coropuna, Ampato, Chachani, Yucamane, Casiri and Tacora. All these volcanoes are considered part of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, and lie 150 - east of the Peru-Chile Trench. Notable among them are Ampato and Coropuna for exceeding a height of 6,000 m, Huaynaputina and El Misti for their large eruptions and Ubinas and Sabancaya for their recent activity.</p><br>
<p>These volcanoes are found in places where strike-slip faults which delimit the volcanic arc and strike along its length intersect additional faults formed by extensional tectonics. Such faults occur around Sabancaya as well and include the Huambo-Cabanaconde, the Huanca, the Ichupampa, the Pampa Sepina and the Sepina faults; the volcanoes Ampato and Sabancaya are aligned on this fault, which may be thus responsible for their existence. These fault systems are still active and experience occasional earthquakes and deformation.</p><br>
<h3>Local</h3><br>
<p>Sabancaya is 5,960 m high and rises 1,500 m above the surrounding terrain. It forms a group of volcanoes with the northern Hualca Hualca and the southern Ampato in the Cordillera Occidental, which tower above the Colca Canyon in the north and the Siguas Valley in the southwest. Ampato and the more heavily eroded Hualca Hualca are the dominant volcanoes of this group, with Sabancaya forming a northeastward extension of the former 4 - away from Ampato&#39;s summit. There is evidence of age progression from the oldest Hualca Hualca over Ampato to the youngest volcano Sabancaya.</p><br>
<p>Sabancaya consists of two separate centres that are formed by neighbouring domes, Sabancaya I North and Sabancaya II South. The summit crater of the volcano lies between these two domes, with traces of an additional crater just northeast. Despite the presence of an ice cap, lava flows are recognizable in the summit area. They have a total volume of 20 -.</p><br>
<p>A set of over 42 Holocene lava flows emanates from the volcano and covers a surface area of about 68 km&sup2, with individual lava flows extending up to east and west from between its two neighbours. The lava flows at larger distances are older than the ones close to the vent. These flows are blocky, have lobe structures and reach thicknesses of 60 -; the total thickness of this pile of lava flows is about 300 -. Pyroclastic flow deposits are also found, but they might originate from Ampato rather than Sabancaya.</p><br>
<p>Sabancaya, like its two neighbours, is covered by an ice cap which in 1988 extended to distances of 2.5 - from the summit. In 1997, a surface area of 3.4 km&sup2; was reported. Moraines at elevations of 4,450 - above sea level testify to the occurrence of more extensive glaciation during the last ice age between 25,000 and 17,000 years before present, they have diverted some lava flows. Younger moraines are found at higher altitudes, 4,400 - above sea level, and may have formed between 13,000 and 10,000 years ago, shortly after the beginning of the Holocene.</p><br>
<p>Earthquake activity has allowed the identification of a candidate magma reservoir beneath Pampa Sepina northeast of Sabancaya about 10 km away from the summit. Between 1992–1996 this area inflated at a depth of below sea level, indicating that the magma supply system of Sabancaya may not be centered directly below the volcano. Indeed, a phase of ground uplift at Hualca Hualca volcano and earthquake swarms in 1990 could indicate that the magma chamber of Sabancaya is actually under the neighbouring volcano.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>The tectonic conditions in the region have not been constant during time; at various timepoints the plates approached each other at higher speed, and this led to a compressional tectonic regimen. In the Western Cordillera however, tensional faulting facilitated the occurrence of voluminous volcanism. This faulting is still underway and produces earthquakes in the area.</p><br>
<p>The basement of the volcano is formed by Precambrian rocks, which are overlaid by various sediments and volcanic formations of Mesozoic and Cenozoic age. Especially during the Neogene, the supply of volcanic material was high and dominated the region, forming a volcanic "foot&quot the present volcanoes are constructed on this volcanic "foot". This "foot" is made out of an ignimbrite plateau that drops down south. The "foot" beneath Ampato, Hualca Hualca and Sabancaya has been dated 2.2 ±0.15 million years ago, while a lava flow beneath the first and the last of these is about 0.8 ±0.04 million years old.</p><br>
<h3>Composition</h3><br>
<p>Fresh volcanites of Sabancaya consist of porphyritic andesite and dacite which form a potassium-rich calc-alkaline suite similar to other volcanoes in southern Peru; the andesites occasionally appear as fine-grained enclaves. The rocks are not very vesicular and contain a moderate amount of phenocrysts. Minerals encountered in both phenocrysts and groundmass are amphibole, biotite, hornblende, iron oxide, plagioclase, pyroxene and titanium oxide; degraded olivine is also found.</p><br>
<p>The magmas formed at temperatures of with uncertainties of 30 -; the highest temperatures are associated with the 1992 eruption products. Isotope data indicate that the pre-magmas interacted with the crust at great depths before rising to shallower magma chambers. In these shallower magma chambers, magma genesis involved processes of magma mixing which formed at least part of the andesites and fractional crystallization which gave rise to the dacites. Partial crystallization and flow events within the magma chamber caused the formation of the andesite enclaves. The total magma production rate of Sabancaya without accounting for repose periods is about 0.6 -.</p><br>
<p>Sabancaya is a source of volcanic gases such as and. The amount of water emitted by Sabancaya is noticeably large for a volcano (about 250,000 t/day); the source of this water might be an evaporating hydrothermal system in the volcano.</p><br>
<h2>Eruptive history</h2><br>
<p>Most activity at Sabancaya occurs in the form of lava domes and lava flows, one of which is dated to 5,440 ±40 years before present on the eastern flank. Additional surface exposure dating has yielded ages of 12,340 ±550, 6,650 ±320 and 6,300 ±310 on various lava flows, indicating that effusive activity started shortly after the beginning of the Holocene. Pyroclastic eruptions are less common and have a low volume, with one such occurrence dated to 8,500 years before present. This tephra layer, along with layers dated 2500-2100 BC, 420–150 BC, 100 BC – 150 AD and between 1200–1400 AD, could have originated either on Sabancaya or Ampato, however. There is evidence that early and middle-Holocene Sabancaya mostly erupted lava, while the late-Holocene volcano was more explosive in its activity. It is possible that the Inca performed human sacrifices in response to eruptions of Sabancaya to calm down the mountain spirits.</p><br>
<p>Spanish chronicles mention probable eruptions in 1752 and 1784, which might have left layers of tephra. After the 18th century, the volcano went dormant for about two hundred years. In late 1986 an increased fumarolic activity heralded the onset of a new eruptive period, and satellite images observed the occurrence of black spots where the ice had melted or boiled away. During this time, the death of animals was observed in the area. This period reached a climax in May 1990, when an eruption with a volcanic explosivity index of 2–3 occurred. This eruption threw ash to distances of 12 km from the summit and was accompanied by strong earthquake activity and the formation of eruption columns that reached heights of. The eruption and further activity, through 1990, enlarged the summit crater and caused the formation of new rows of fumaroles. Chemical analysis, of the volcanic rocks, suggests that this phase of volcanic activity was started by the injection of mafic magma into the magma chamber. This eruption displaced between 4,000 and 1,500 people in the region.</p><br>
<p>After the large 1990 eruption, the style of activity at Sabancaya changed towards a frequent occurrence of explosive eruptions with however low output, which threw ballistic blocks to distances of about 1 km from the summit crater; this pattern of activity is referred to as "Vulcanian eruptions". These explosive eruptions became less common over time (from paroxysms every 20–30 minutes to only 5–6 eruptions per day) and the proportional amount of fresh volcanic material increased at first; since 1997 discontinuous eruptions generate steam columns no higher than 300 - and ejected material is almost entirely lithic. Satellite imagery has evidenced the occurrence of temperature anomalies on Sabancaya on the scale of 13 K-change, probably owing to fumarolic activity.</p><br>
<p>In March and April 2013, fumarolic activity and the occurrence of seismic swarms increased leading to local infrastructure being damaged; an eruption occurred in August 2014. This pulse of activity was accompanied by an increased release of, which was being emitted at a rate of 1,000 t/day in 2014. Ash was emitted by the volcano multiple times through 2014 and 2015.</p><br>
<p>A further increase of fumarolic activity was observed in 2016, when new fumaroles appeared and sulfur flux increased to 6,000 t/day sulfur dioxide. Ash eruptions occurred since the 6 November 2016, with an eruption column high five days later., a persistent gas plume lies above the volcano and repeated emissions of ash have happened, resulting in several alerts for the local population.</p><br>
<h3>Hazards</h3><br>
<p>Sabancaya rises above the valleys of the Colca river and of some tributaries of the Siguas river with about 35,000 people living in them. Sabancaya is particularly dangerous for the Colca river valley, a major tourism destination in Peru with the towns Achoma, Cabanaconde, Chivay, Ichupampa, Lari, Maca, Madrigal, Pinchollo, Yanque and others. The flanks of Sabancaya themselves include roads and a major power line that comes from the and delivers electricity to southern Peru; all of these could be threatened in an eruption. In the case of a major Plinian eruption, at least 60,000 to 70,000 people would be threatened. Rock fall would affect the area close to the summit domes, as would pyroclastic flows; these would be a further hazard to the valleys draining the volcano.</p><br>
<p>The presence of an ice cap is an additional source of danger, as their melting during a volcanic eruption could form hazardous lahars, although the small volume of the ice cap limits their damage potential. The Majes River and Sihuasi River drainages would be threatened by such mudflows in case of an eruption; the former is the site of a major irrigation project.</p><br>
<p>The monitors Sabancaya, and has published a hazard map. Aside from the direct threat of eruptions, Sabancaya also contributes to air pollution in the Colca valley, which can damage plants and cause respiratory distress in animals and humans.</p><br>
<p>Ojo Guareña is a karst complex located in the Cantabrian Mountains of Castile and Leon, Spain, declared a natural monument by the government of Castile and Leon in 1996. It is composed of over 90 km of galleries and passages within an area of some 13,850 hectare. The limestone formation containing the system is approximately 100 m thick and sits on a massive water-resistant layer of marl. The caves were formed in the limestone by erosion sometime within the Coniacian Age. Ojo Guareña was considered the greatest karst system of the Iberian Peninsula until 2009, when a significant length of new passages was discovered in the Mortillano system.</p><br>
<p>Archaeological findings in the area indicate that various caves in the Ojo Guareña system were used by humans as early as the Middle Palaeolithic up until the Middle Ages. Scientific exploration has also discovered the presence of over 180 species of invertebrates in the complex.</p><br>
<p>Tourist access to the caverns is permitted, and there is a visitor&#39;s centre located in Quintanilla del Rebollar.</p><br>
<h2>Features</h2><br>
<p>The karst complex of Ojo Guareña consists of a massive network of over galleries and cavities, not all of which are connected, occupying an area of about 13,000 ha. The main network consists of fourteen caves that are connected with each other over six different levels of the system. The most prominent entry point is at Palomera Cave.</p><br>
<p>Ojo Guareña was formed by the erosive action of the Guareña and Trema rivers, in addition to the Villamartín stream. These bodies of water run through the lower galleries for most of the year, although during flood season it is possible for the water to enter the higher galleries. Eventually, they return to the outside through karst springs at Trema, Torquilla, Torcón and Torcona, located on a lower section of Trema River. The groundwater runs through Ojo Guareña at a speed of 1.5–5 km per day, depending on whether the measurement is made during the drier summer or the flood season. The groundwater feeds an aquifer located in the hinge of the area&#39;s syncline fold.</p><br>
<h2>Flora and fauna</h2><br>
<p>A number of birds live in the area surrounding the cave complex, including the golden eagle, short-toed snake eagle, Egyptian vulture, Eurasian sparrowhawk, Eurasian eagle-owl, griffon vulture, tawny owl, and the peregrine falcon. Inside the caves there are several species of bats, such as the cave bat, greater horseshoe bat, lesser horseshoe bat, and Geoffroy&#39;s bat. Other mammal species that live in the region include the Pyrenean desman, wildcat, dormouse or the Eurasian otter.</p><br>
<p>In 2012, a paper was released documenting the presence of 187 invertebrate species in Ojo Guareña, belonging to a variety of phyla. 32 of them were entirely new to science. Of the more than 200 cave-dwelling aquatic invertebrates that are known in Spain, more than a quarter of them were discovered in Ojo Guareña.</p><br>
<p>The vegetation in the Ojo Guareña area is very diverse due to its location in a transition zone between the Mediterranean and Euro-siberian climate regions. The surface of the natural monument is occupied by meadows, grasslands, heathlands and Iberian forests. A number of trees are found in these forested areas, including multiple varieties of oak, beech, hazel, poplar, alder, and aspen. In addition, pine trees have been planted to encourage reforestation.</p><br>
<h2>Archaeology</h2><br>
<p>Evidence has been found to indicate the presence of human beings in and around the caves of Ojo Guareña from at least as early as the Middle Palaeolithic up until the Middle Ages.</p><br>
<h3>Palaeolithic</h3><br>
<p>The oldest signs of human presence, including cave paintings and tools, in the complex of Ojo Guareña are in the cave of Prado Vargas. Excavations in 1973 located prehistoric pottery fragments. In 1986, more pottery fragments and stone tools were located, indicating a possible Neanderthal presence. In 2006, some 400 Mousterian pieces were located and the site was classified as an archaeological industry. Impressions of footprints making a round trip, accompanied by torch fragments that have been radiocarbon dated to as old as 15,600 years, indicate that the cave has been in use for millennia.</p><br>
<h3>Neolithic and Bronze Age</h3><br>
<p>In the Cave of Kaite, paintings have been found that appear to represent deer. On the walls and the vault of the Sala de la Fuente, or Fountain Room, are paintings that depict people, animal forms, and geometric drawings. These images span a period of time between the late Neolithic and the beginning of the Bronze Age.</p><br>
<h2>Protected status</h2><br>
<p>On March 14, 1996, Decrees 60/1996 and 61/1996 were issued, approving the Natural Resource Management Plan for Ojo Guareña (Burgos) and declaring the official status of Ojo Guareña as Natural Monument of Ojo Guareña (Burgos). Decree 174/1998, of September 3, 1998, regulates the composition of the Governing Board of the Ojo Guareña Natural Monument.</p><br>
<p>The Island Historic District is a mixed commercial and residential historic district located in Plainwell, Michigan. It is roughly bounded by Bannister Street to the north, Hill Street to the south, the Kalamazoo River to the east, and Park Street to the west, as well as including properties along Main Street south of the mill race and along Bridge Street west to the mill race. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Plainwell was first settled in the 1830s, and the first frame house built in what is now the Island Historic District was constructed in 1846. In the early 1850s, two plank toll roads were built through the area along what are now Main and Allegan Streets, leading to an increase in development around "The Junction" between the two. In 1856, the Plainwell Water Power Company was formed, and the company dug a mill race across a bend in the Kalamazoo River, creating the island which encompasses this district. In 1857, a saw mill was constructed at the outlet of the race, and soon a rake factory, grist mill, and paper mill were all established along the race, using the water power available.</p><br>
<p>The settlement of Plainwell was platted in 1863 by Ira Chichester, a prominent Allegan businessman, and was incorporated as a village in 1869. By 1873, the central business district of the village had expanded to encompass much of the space it does now, extending along Bridge and Main Streets a block in each direction from The Junction. These buildings were primarily two-story frame structures, but a smattering of brick buildings were already extant in the district; these include the three-story block at the corner of Main and Bridge which dates from at least 1866, and the 1867 Ives Block at 1120 N. Main.</p><br>
<p>Plainwell grew rapidly in the 1870s and 80s. As the 1890s arrived, many of the older frame commercial buildings gave way to newer brick buildings. Most of the business districts was rebuilt in the 1890s and early 1900s.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Island Historic District contains the historic central business district of the city, primarily located along Main Street, and the adjacent historic</p><br>
<p>residential areas. The district contains 35 commercial buildings, 137 residences; 139 of the 172 buildings contribute to the historic character of the district. Most of the commercial buildings are one- and two-story brick structures dating from the late 1800s and early 1900s. However, a few earlier commercial buildings of frame construction exist in the district, and two of the buildings are three stories in height.</p><br>
<p>The grandest residences in the district, and in the village as a whole, are located along East and West Bridge Streets and South Main Street. These include outstanding examples of Eastlake, Italianate, and Queen Anne architecture. The houses in the district east of Main Street and south of Bridge Street are generally more modest, but also display a range of architectural styles.</p><br>
<p>The Blausteinsee Leisure and Recreation Area is an artificial lake north of the Eschweiler municipality in the Aachen district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is around 100 hectares in size and has a depth of 46m. It was created during the regeneration of the Zukunft opencast coal mine in the Rhineland coalfield, made by flooding the pit left by the mine with water. Today the lake is a holiday area for the surrounding towns. The surface of the lake is 129 metres above sea level and the volume is around 25 million cubic metres. The filling of the lake began in 1994.</p><br>
<p>The owner of the Blausteinsee is the Blausteinsee Leisure Centre GmbH, which was founded as a support organization in 1982 by the municipalities of Aldenhoven, Alsdorf, Eschweiler, Stolberg and Würselen. The aim of this company is to create and maintain an attractive leisure and recreational area for the people of the Aachen region, along with coordination of activities on and around the lake.</p><br>
<h2>Location and detailed description</h2><br>
<p>Blausteinsee is located primarily in the municipality of Eschweiler. The only exception is the Schlangengraben stream flowing to its north, which is part of the municipality of Aldenhoven. There is a recreational area on the southern shore located in the Dürwiß district which includes an outdoor swimming pool and a place for young people to ride their bikes. The twin districts of Fronhoven and Neu-Lohnn lie on the eastern shore. The lake is surrounded by a green belt, 80-130 metres wide, with a footpath, a cycle path and a 10.3 km long rollerblading path. Altogether, the lake&#39;s recreational area consists of about 180 hectares.</p><br>
<p>A diving area lies on the northwestern shore and includes a filling station and an aid for easy entry and exit. The western shoreline contains a bathing area and a beach, along with a dining area. The northern, northeastern and eastern shores are a natural reserve.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In 1981 the town of Eschweiler started working on plans for a lake in the town (the Eschweiler Sea). The Eschweiler sailing club had already been formed two years previously. In 1982 the relocation of the population of Erberich, Langendorf, Laurenzburg, Lürken, Langweiler and Obermerz to the towns of Neu-Lohn and Fronhoven began. Blaustein GmbH was founded as a local supporting organisation by the towns of Aldenhoven, Alsdorf, Eschweiler and Würselen and the name of the lake was changed to Blausteinsee. This was the first inter-municipal project in the Aachen region.</p><br>
<p>The name of the lake comes from the old district of Am blauen Stein north of Dürwiß, a 17th or 18th century wayside cross on the road between Dürwiß and Fronhoven, as it appears in old maps.</p><br>
<p>After the last of the 530 million tons of brown coal was mined from the Zukunft-West mine in 1987, regeneration began. In early 1994, the last machinery was removed from the mine. The former mines of Zukunft and Zukunft-West were around 23 km². At the same time the access road was renamed as Zum Blausteinsee.</p><br>
<p>On October 5, 1994 the filling of the Blausteinsee began. The fountain was in the middle of the lake, around 500m from the shore, using around 210 liters of water per second, and reaching a height of 40m. Around 6.7 million m³ of water flowed into the lake per year, and, to start off with at least, 75 million m³ were needed because up to 50 million m³ of water either sunk into the ground or evaporated.</p><br>
<p>In August 1997, the Verband der wassersporttreibenden Vereine Blausteinsee 1997 e. V. was founded. This was a follow-up to the Interessengemeinschaft Blausteinsee which was created in 1982. On August 12, 2000, the Blausteinsee was officially opened and a temporary container village was set up. In 2002, the Eschweiler sailing club and the Alsdorf sailing club constructed their own dock. Since August 2003 a private security company has been employed to patrol the area to prevent wild barbecuing, swimming and the trespassing of nature reserves. In August 2004 a part of the lake was made accessible for swimming and in 2005 the lake reached its final area of around 100 hectares and a maximum depth of 46m. A large erratic boulder on the western shore serves as a memorial to the initial filling and opening of the lake.</p><br>
<h2>Watersport</h2><br>
<p>The Blausteinsee very quickly developed into an attraction for sports enthusiasts. On the western shore there is a diving area. Because of the sandy lakebed, the visibility depends on the number of divers, but usually ranges between 1-7m. Below 25m the visibility is especially good. Many attractions have been sunk into the lake, such as a car, a wrecked dinghy, a statue of an angel and trees. The Eschweiler Diving Club has produced an underwater map showing them all. The lake is also used for canoeing, rowing, swimming, sailing and windsurfing, however kitesurfing and model boats are prohibited.</p><br>
<p>Every year the Erich Berscheit Cup is contested by holding a regatta. It is named after the former mayor of Eschweiler, Erich Berscheit, who decided to create the lake.</p><br>
<h3>Rules for Visitors</h3><br>
<p>Visitors to the sea are required to follow the following behaviors with regard to the lake:</p><br>
<p>Dogs must remain tethered so that they do not interfere with spawning and nesting sites on the shore.</p><br>
<p>Grilling and lighting of shishas are prohibited. Especially in the summer months, the fire risk is very high.</p><br>
<p>There is a strict ban on the feeding of birds for the protection of the animals.</p><br>
<h2>Flora and Fauna</h2><br>
<p>The Blausteinsee is still biologically young. Cnidarians, crabs, freshwater snails, amphibians and many fish, from small to medium-sized such as the common rudd and the common roach, as well perciforms and eels can be seen in the lake. Near the shore the first water plants are starting to spread. The immediate surroundings of the lake are fields, trees, copses and hedges. The green belt, which is around 80-130m wide, is filled with deciduous trees, bushes, meadows and other areas that were allowed to develop naturally.</p><br>

<p>The Imlay and Laurel Streets District is a residential historic district on portions of Imlay, Laurel, Hawthorn and Sigourney Streets in Hartford, Connecticut. The area is a densely built residential neighborhood developed between about 1870 and 1895, with predominantly brick Italianate and Queen Anne construction. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Imlay and Laurel Streets in the early 19th century part of the Imlay Farm, which was developed beginning in 1853 as a residential area. The best-known portion of Imlay Farm is the Nook Farm, which became home to the citys business and cultural elites. Imlay and Laurel Streets are located between Nook Farm and the American Asylum for the Deaf, which gave Hartfords Asylum Hill neighborhood its name. They were developed as a more dense middle-class residential area, in part to provide housing for workers at the asylum. The streets were laid out in 1869, and experienced rapid development between 1880 and 1896, by which time 83 buildings had been erected. Later redevelopment has resulted in the destruction of most of these, and now fewer than 30 remain.</p><br>
<p>The historic district is bordered on the west by properties on the west side of Imlay Street, and on the east by a few properties on the west side of Sigourney Street. Its northern boundary is marked by transitions away from historic buildings on Imlay, Laurel, and Sigourney Streets, and its southern boundary includes two houses on Hawthorn Street. Most of the buildings in this area are one and two-family residences, two stories in height, and are built at least partly out of brick. There are two examples of Italianate architecture on Imlay Street, which were probably built in the 1850s, not long after development began in the area. Most of the houses have Queen Anne features, including asymmetrical facades, decorative brickwork, and porches with turned posts and other period woodwork details.</p><br>
<p>The Isham-Terry House is a historic house museum at 211 High Street in Hartford, Connecticut. Built about 1854, it was from 1896 home to members of the Isham family, who restored it in the early 20th century. The family donated the property to Connecticut Landmarks in the 1970s, which now operates it has a museum, offering guided tours and facility event rentals. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Isham-Terry House occupies a prominent and highly visible location just north of Interstate 84 outside downtown Hartford, at the northwest corner of High and Walnut Streets, and adjacent to the city&#39;s police department headquarters. It is a roughly cubical painted brick structure, two stories in height, with a low-pitch roof. A three-story tower projecting from its southwest corner adds visual prominence. The roof eaves are deep, with decorative Italianate brackets for support. Windows are on the two main floors are set in rectangular openings, with narrow oblong windows in the attic level of the main block. On the street-facing facades, the second-floor windows are topped by gabled or segmented-arch pediments with brackets on either side. The first floor of the facade facining Walnut Street is sheltered by a porch supported by slender clustered columns, with round-arch openings that have carved woodwork in the spandrels, and a low spindled balustrade. A similar porch shelters the main entrance facing High Street, and balconies on the tower share similar features. The building interior is well preserved, with lincrusta wall covering, ornate woodwork, and glass chandeliers.</p><br>
<p>The house was built sometime between the 1852 purchase of land by Ebenezer Roberts, and his listing as the buildings first occupant in 1856. Roberts was a directory of the Hartford National Bank, Travelers Insurance Company, and other local businesses. Construction of this house contributed to the development of Asylum Hill as a desirable and fashionable neighborhood for the citys elites, although urban renewal has resulted in demolition of nearly all of the other similar houses that once lined High Street. The house was purchased in 1896 by Dr. Oliver Isham, a descendant of the locally prominent Isham and Terry families. He lived here and operated a medical practice. In the 1970s his surviving descendants gave the property to Connecticut Landmarks for preservation.</p><br>
<p>The Newlands Historic District in Reno, Nevada is a historic district on the bluffs south of the Truckee River which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.</p><br>
<p>It is a residential district bounded by the Truckee River on the north, Arlington Avenue on the east, Monroe Street on the south and Keystone Avenue, California Avenue and Sharon Way on the west.</p><br>
<p>According to the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office:The Newlands Historic District was also recognized for its importance to Reno’s historic architecture, possessing a stylistic diversity and level of design quality rare in northwest Nevada. Many of the region’s best known architects of the early twentieth century completed some of their most significant residential commissions in Nevada in the Newlands neighborhood, creating several of Reno’s most outstanding examples of Period Revival and Craftsman homes. The Newlands neighborhood includes a broad but carefully selected mix of residential architecture planned by the community’s developers under the umbrella of the Newlands Company, who intended the buildings to blend with the neighborhood’s broader City Beautiful aesthetic. The landscape and architecture of the Newlands neighborhood defined the architectural and landscape development of future neighborhoods in the city and remains among the best preserved early-twentieth century residential areas in Reno.</p><br>
<p>The Bryant Building is a historic retail building located in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States. The building, designed by the prominent local architectural firm of Christian, Schwarzenburg and Gaede, was constructed by Mall Motor Co. as their new salesroom and service center, and was completed in 1921. The structure was purchased by Bryant Motor Co. in 1922.</p><br>
<p>The structure was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on December 11, 2014.</p><br>
<h2>Construction of the building</h2><br>
<p>The Mall Motor Co. was an automobile dealership located in Cleveland, Ohio. In the fall of 1920, Mall Motor Co. purchased a long on the north side of Superior Avenue between E. 12th and E. 13th Streets. Located at what is now 1261 Superior Avenue, the lot had a frontage of 120 ft on Superior Avenue, and extended 160 ft into the heart of the block. By December, Mall Motor Co. had hired the locally prominent architectural firm of Christian, Schwarzenburg and Gaede to design a $250,000 ($ in dollars) structure consisting of a basement and two above-ground stories. Construction would include a brick foundation, steel frame, reinforced concrete walls and floors, and brick interior walls. The structure would also have steam heat.</p><br>
<p>The $250,000 ($ in dollars) contract for the building was let in April 1921. The building rose swiftly, and was completed by the end of April 1921.</p><br>
<p>The finished building extended from Superior Avenue to Rockwell Avenue. A mezzanine with offices overlooked the sales room. The sales area also featured restrooms specifically set aside for female patrons. Behind the salesroom was a 46,000 ft&sup2; service area and garage. This area featured a lounge and showers for employee use.</p><br>
<p>Mall Motor Co. formally opened the structure on July 24, 1921.</p><br>
<h2>History of the building</h2><br>
<p>Mall Motor Co. sold the building to the Bryant Motor Co. in September 1922.</p><br>
<p>At some point in the 20th century, 17,700 ft&sup2; of garage at the rear of the building was demolished.</p><br>
<p>Cuyahoga County purchased the building some time before 1990, and used as the headquarters of the county title agency.</p><br>
<p>Cuyahoga County began attempting to sell the 32,000 ft&sup2; building to a private owner about 2012. The structure finally sold for an undisclosed sum in 2016 to Masthead Brewing, a brew pub. The new owner renovated 16,000 ft&sup2; of the front of the building into restaurant space, removing the dropped ceiling to expose the original ceiling height and adding seating for 250 customers. A sidewalk cafe was added to the Superior Avenue side of the building. The renovation retained the garage doors, which (when raised) allowed the interior to be open to the street during warm weather. Masthead Brewing opened in January 2017.</p><br>
<p>Dietel Palace  is a neo-baroque palace built for Heinrich Dietel, located in Sosnowiec .</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The palace consists of two parts: narrower north and broader the south. Facades are made of brick, with details made of plaster and artificial stone. The building is covered with mansard roofs.</p><br>
<h2>Interiors</h2><br>
<p>The interiors of the palace have retained some of the original equipment and decor, which makes the property a particularly valuable monument. The representative rooms are located on the first floor. These are:</p><br>
<p>Ballroom: the two-storey ballroom is in the style of Louis XV. Walls decorate with mirrors and stucco. A small balcony was located in the western wall.</p><br>
<p>Neobarock dining room: the second largest in the palace, is also called a Dutch room or couch room. In the dining room there is an oak wood paneling with the sideboards in it. An additional decoration is the panels with decorations referring to the Dutch painting of Delft.</p><br>
<p>Neo-Roman pipe room: decorated with paneling with plant and animal motifs in which the cabinets and the seat have been integrated. Additional room decoration is two stained glass windows.</p><br>
<p>The Art Nouveau Cabinet: connected to the dining room through a massive sliding door. The ceiling is decorated with stucco decoration.</p><br>
<p>Bathroom: rich bathroom facilities have remained almost unchanged. This exclusive palace bathroom "played" among others. In the film Between the mouth and the shores of the cup.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The first plans of the building were created in the 1880s and signed by Waligórski. The final project was created in 1890. Around the year 1900, with the completion of the palace, a parked walled premise, with a conservatory and elements of small architecture, was created. The palace was part of the patronage team, including the park, the former factory, the workers&#39; settlement, and the evangelical church. As a Dietel family residence, the palace functioned until 1945. In January of that year it was occupied by the Soviet NKVD commanding the city for its needs. At that time, many parts of the palace and equipment were destroyed. Until 1997 the seat of the School of Music. Since 1997 the building has been privately owned. Since the same year renovation work has begun. From 2016 it is possible to explore the facility, rent halls for banquets with accommodations.</p><br>
<p>Kevin Depot, in Kevin, Montana, was built by the Great Northern Railroad in Kevin, Montana in 1903. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.</p><br>
<p>It was deemed to be "architecturally significant because it is typical of small town stations of turn-of-the-century Montana. The Great Northern Railroad created the Kevin site for steam locomotives to take on water half-way on their journey from the high-line to the Canadian border. Rainwater was collected in a pit behind the station. These small stations have all but disappeared; Kevin is one of the few left."</p><br>
<p>It is a 24 x structure with a square bay on one side and an addition built in 1925. It was moved two blocks from its railroad right-of-way location in 1979, with intention that the moved building would be used as a senior citizens center.</p><br>
<p>The West Bridge Street Historic District is a residential historic district containing structures located at 320, 414–550 and 321–563 West Bridge Street in Plainwell, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.</p><br>

<p>West Bridge Street is one of three areas in Plainwell where the large and imposing homes of the community&#39;s successful merchants are located. Many of the larger homes in the district, including 405, 439, 519, 527, 530, and 551 West Bridge Street, were constructed at some time just before 1873. Additional houses were constructed through the remainder of the 19th century and into the first decade of the twentieth. The district also contains the former</p><br>
<p>Bridge Street School, constructed in 1910 on a plot which had been used for school purposes since the 1860s. This school has been converted into living units.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The West Bridge Street Historic District extends along West Bridge Street beginning at the mill race. The district contains 29 nineteenth- and early</p><br>
<p>twentieth-century residences, as well as a 1910 red brick school building. The school and 27 of the 29 houses contribute to the historic character of the district. The houses are primarily two-story frame structures set on large lots and located well back from the street. The district includes an eclectic mix of architectural styles and house sizes. There are a number of early Italianate houses, including one built by L. H. Woodhams house, with a square cupola, as well as Colonial Revival structures such as the Gilkey house, Upright and Wing houses, Queen Anne houses, Foursquare houses, and an craftsman half-timbered bungalow.</p><br>
<p>The Warner P. Sutton House, also known as The Beeches or Beechwood Manor, is a private house located at 736 Pleasant Street in Saugatuck, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. It now operates as the Beechwood Manor Inn Bed & Breakfast.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Warner P. Sutton House was constructed in 1874 by Roland Barnard. It is named after Warner P. Sutton, who served as a United States diplomat in Mexico and an attorney specializing in the field of international law.</p><br>
<p>Warner Perrin Sutton was born on October 16, 1849, the son of Luther Sutton and Priscilla Jane Bancroft. Warner Sutton began his career as a school teacher and journalist, and married Lois Andrus in 1874. The Suttons moved to Saugatuck in 1875, where Warner Sutton assumed the position of principal of the union school. In 1877, Sutton purchased this house for his family.</p><br>
<p>In 1878, Sutton was appointed USA Commercial Agent at Matamoros, Mexico upon the recommendation of his friend Senator Thomas W. Ferry. In 1883 he was appointed consul general for northern Mexico, and in 1889 was transferred to Nuevo Laredo, where he served until 1893. From 1893 to 1900 he operated an international law practice in Washington DC. In 1900, he had a stroke which left him an invalid until his death in 1913.</p><br>
<p>Sutton continued to own this home until his death, naming it "The Beeches." His family used it as a summer home during the years they lived in Mexico and in Washington DC. Several alterations were made to the house around 1900, including the installation of the front porch.</p><br>
<p>In 1986, the house was saved from demolition and had an addition constructed, as well as other renovation. In 1990 it opened as the Beechwood Manor Inn Bed & Breakfast.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Warner P. Sutton house is a two-story wood frame cross-gabled L-plan dwelling. It stands on a concrete block foundation and is clad with clapboards. A Tuscan-column, wraparound veranda runs across the front of the house. Windows are double-hung one-over-one units in plain wooden frames; the front door has a hood and transom. A 1986 single-story addition extends to the rear.</p><br>
<p>On the interior, the main floor contains the foyer, two parlors, a sitting room, and a dining room in the original section of the house. The 1986 addition contains a kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and recreation room. The second story contains four bedrooms and two bathrooms.</p><br>
<p>The James Pratt Funeral Service was a historic house at 69 Farmington Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. Built in 1860, it was one of the few surviving mid-19th-century houses on a once-residential stretch of that street. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. and the property is now part of the Aetna campus.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>69 Farmington Avenue was located on the south side of Farmington Avenue, between Flower Street and the main building of Aetna&#39;s corporate campus, an area now occupied by parking lots that are part of that campus. The house was two stories in height, built of brick and covered by a flat roof with an extended eave in the Italianate style. Second-floor windows were framed by Italianate hoods with drip moulding brackets supporting gabled pediments, an echo of decorations that probably also originally adorned other windows. A modern single-story porch extended across the front facade, sheltering ground-floor windows that were elongated in the Greek Revival style.</p><br>
<p>The house was built about 1860, and was at the time of its listing on the National Register one of only two houses to survive from that period on Farmington Avenue, which was at one time lined by many such houses. The building was converted to non-residential uses as the area became increasingly commercial. It was subsequently demolished as part of an expansion of the Aetna campus.</p><br>
<p>Main Building is the central administration building of St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas, and formerly also of St. Edwards High School . First completed in 1888 and rebuilt after a fire in 1903, Main Building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973, along with adjacent Holy Cross Hall.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>St. Edward&#39;s University was founded in 1877 by Edward Sorin, a Roman Catholic priest who also founded the University of Notre Dame. The school was established on farmland atop a promontory to the south of Austin. As the institution grew in the early 1880s, its leaders decided to commission an administration building on that hilltop, hiring architect Nicholas J. Clayton of Galveston, Texas to design the structure.</p><br>
<p>Clayton produced a large Gothic Revival design, four stories high with tall Gothic windows; this first Main Building was begun in 1887 and completed in 1888. On April 9, 1903, the first building was destroyed in a fire; the university then commissioned Clayton, the original architect, to design a replacement for the structure, on essentially the same plan, upgraded to include modern fireproofing features. Main Building was rebuilt over the spring and summer, ready for use by the beginning of the fall 1903 semester. At the same time, another new building, Holy Cross Hall, was built alongside the new Main Building, sharing its overall design on a smaller scale.</p><br>
<p>Since its first opening, Main Building has housed the administrative offices of St. Edwards College (as the school was known in its first decades) and St. Edwards University (since the university was charted in 1925); it also formerly held the administration of St. Edward&#39;s High School from 1921, when the secondary school was separated from the college, until 1967, when the high school was closed. During World War II the facility housed a military academy and flight school. Holy Cross Hall has been used as a dormitory and has held classrooms, offices and meeting space.</p><br>
<h3>Repairs and renovations</h3><br>
<p>In 1922 a tornado struck the campus, tearing a hole through the south face of Main Building that required extensive repairs. The building underwent substantial renovations in 1986 to bring it into compliance with modern building codes and reinforce the exterior walls. Repairs to the exterior stonework, roofing and windows were undertaken in 2014, along with the restoration of the bell tower&#39;s original bell. Another round of exterior restorations and interior renovations began in 2016, while similar work was underway at Holy Cross Hall.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>Main Building is a roughly rectangular four-story hall, clad with local white limestone on its northern facade, with a central bell tower projecting several stories higher from the rear. The building is divided into three sections: two taller and bulkier wings on the east and west, and a more narrow central segment joining them, totaling a 12,300 ft2 footprint. Main Building exemplifies the Collegiate Gothic architecture that was popular among educational institutions in late-nineteenth-century America, with its protruding one-story church porch, tall lancet windows with hood molding, and turreted buttresses.</p><br>
<h3>Main facade</h3><br>
<p>The main entry is in the center of the north facade, where a flared staircase leads up to the porch and red double doors framed by a Gothic arch with hood mold and pointed gable. Above the entrance the facade is marked by a central bay, which projects slightly forward and frames three columns of windows with another hood mold and gable, matching those on the facing of the porch. Each level of the central segment has its own style of windows: the first floor has trios of pointed-arch windows with hood molding, while the second has trios of simple rectangles, and the third has a series of small lancet windows with hood molds. A line of dentils follows the roofline, including under the high gable of the central bay.</p><br>
<p>The east and west wings of the building project forward relative to the central portion, and their steeply pitched rooflines extend upward another story above the center. The north face of each wing is divided into three vertical bays by four buttresses, two on the face of the structure and two at the corners; the corner buttresses extend above the roofline to form cylindrical turrets topped with conical spires. Each bay on the wings duplicates the pattern of windows from the central facade, but the wings&#39; central bays and gables extend higher than the corresponding bay above the main entrance.</p><br>
<h3>Other features</h3><br>
<p>The central tower rises from the rear of the building, its lower levels protruding from the south face. The first four stories of the tower are round and embedded in the building, supported by two heavy limestone buttresses. Near the roofline, a ring of blind arches forms a transition to a freestanding octagonal upper section; only this upper portion is visible from the front of the building. The walls of the upper section are pierced by an octagonal open arcade of Gothic arches, topped with an encircling corbelled cornice. Above the cornice, the roof forms a steep octagonal pyramid, pierced by four small gabled windows, and topped by a cross-shaped finial.</p><br>
<p>The sides and rear of the building are faced with brick rather than limestone, excepting the lower portion of the tower and its buttresses. The windows and gables on the other faces are similar but simplified versions of the those found on the main facade.</p><br>
<h3>Holy Cross Hall</h3><br>
<p>Built adjacent to Main Building while that structure was reconstructed after the 1903 fire, Holy Cross Hall shares a simplified version of its larger neighbors architectural design. The smaller hall shares the same overall center-and-wings floorplan, but on a considerably smaller footprint and only three stories high. The entire exterior is faced with the same bricks used on the sides and rear of Main Building, and it lacks the larger structures high gabled bays, except above the main entrance on the north side. In place of Main Building&#39;s bell tower, Holy Cross Hall has a modest one-story turret.</p><br>
<p>The Jefferson-Seymour District is a historic district encompassing a residential area on the south side of Hartford, Connecticut. Covering portions of Cedar, Wadsworth, Seymour and Jefferson Streets, it contains a well-preserved collection of late 19th and early 20th-century middle-class residential architecture, primarily executed in brick. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The area south of downtown Hartford between Washington and Main Streets was developed as a residential area beginning in the mid-19th century. It was bounded by estates on Washington Street that extended east to Cedar Street, and the south by the institutional campuses of the Hartford Hospital and Hartford Orphan Asylum, both established in the 1860s. This area became an enclave of middle-class residential housing, with densely built one and two-family houses, housing people who worked either in downtown, at one of the two institutions, or a short way east at the Colt Armory. In the early 20th century, some of the area was redeveloped to include a number of apartment blocks. The area is now hemmed in by encroaching state and municipal offices to the north and west, and the growing medical institutions to the south.</p><br>
<p>The historic district is bounded on the south by Jefferson Street, and extends north along Seymour Street to Park Street. Including two short blocks of Park Street, it then extends further north along back-to-back sides of Cedar and Wadsworth Streets nearly to Buckingham Street. Most of the residences in this area are built out of brick, and are two stories in height. Early construction exhibits a combination of Italianate and Greek Revival elements, with later buildings in modestly decorated versions of the Second Empire and Queen Anne. The later apartment blocks are typically in the Colonial Revival style, which is also reflected in a few single-family houses built in the 1920s.</p><br>
<p>Krupaj spring is a water spring in Eastern Serbia and Pomoravlje district below the western limestone massif of Beljanica, on the right side of the river Krupaj, at the altitude of 220 m. It is close to the village Milanovac, 35 km from Žagubica.</p><br>
<h2>Location and characteristics</h2><br>
<p>Krupaj spring is located in Eastern Serbia, Pomoravlje district and it belongs to the karst springs, with the temperature of 9-11°C. The spring, at the bottom, has an amphitheatral form of precipitous, mostly vertical sides. The stream of the spring, 435 meters long, first flows towards the north and after 130 meters it changes its direction to the west to continue 300 meters more before it confluences with the river Krupaj. After the dam was built, with the height of 3m, Krupaj spring won the new look of the oval lake with 40m length and 17m width. Its water overflows from the lake with very attractive waterfall.</p><br>
<p>Speleological studies in 1998, which followed an comprehensive research project, revealed the existence of over 70 m deep inverse arm of the cave siphon, which leads to the melting of limestone from the limestone massif of Beljanica. From the dam to the mill, the stream of water flows through the limestone, jumping from the steep sides and the waterfalls. The hydrological regime of the spring and its yield are not sufficiently tested. As the majority of karst springs, Krupaj spring has very changeable amount of water through the year. Close to the mill&#39;s construction, there is a thermal water spring, with the temperature of 26°C and the flow of 6–10 litres per second. This water comes from a natural thermal spring that is sealed and escorted to the fountain. A dozen meters away from the fountain, another thermal phenomenon is represented by the spring in the form of a miniature waterfall that emerged from a self-extinguishing geological well.</p><br>
<p>Krupaj spring and the surrounding area of 9 ha are protected as the monument of nature of national importance in the Republic of Serbia. The Monument of Nature "Krupajsko Vrelo" was established by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Serbia (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 9/95), and on the basis of the Environmental Protection Act, for the protected natural heritage of outstanding importance it is one of the strongest karst resources in Serbia. According to the morphology of its source, hydrological functions and the accompanying natural features belongs to the group of the most representative gravitational springs.</p><br>

<p>The Rainbow Conoco at 400 Main St. in Shelby, Montana, also known as Joe&#39;s, was built in 1936. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.</p><br>
<p>It was a gas and car repair station designed by Continental Oil Co. architects as an "English cottage-type station". The design included a steeply pitched gable roof with dark green asphalt shingles, contrasting to the off-white glazed brick exterior. It was built in 1936 and expanded in the same style, to add a second service bay, in 1941. A 29 x flat roof expansion which does not match was added in 1975 when Joe Kincaid took over operation. Twenty-eight years later in 1993, Kincaid still operated the station.</p><br>
<p>It was deemed significant as "one of finest examples of 1930s era gas station design in Montana" and as "the best original domestic, English cottage design remaining in the State. The styling reflected the desire to avoid conflict with nearby residential environments and blend effectively with adjacent commercial structures. The beautifully maintained glazed brick exterior is accentuated with natural brick trim around windows and doors in the classic 1930s style. The high-pitched gable roof and distinctive white and green color scheme made the station a familiar and recognizable landmark."</p><br>
<p>Oskar Schöens Palace called also New Schöens Palace - one of the two residences of the Schöen family, located on the merger of the districts and, at the time of its creation, the settlement: Ostra-Gorka and Sielec, on the left bank of the Black River. Actually The Palace is located in the center of Sosnowiec</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>As the only one amongst the pinewoods, it is situated in the city center (1 Maja Street 19). Over the eclectic building of the palace, a distinctive neo-gothic tower in the style of English Gothic. Also, most of the body of the building is neo-Gothic style, but also are visible features in neo-Romanesque, Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau style. The palace in its north-eastern part had a glass conservatory. During the renovation and adaptation of the palace for the needs of the judiciary, the orangery was covered with a roof and converted into office space.</p><br>
<p>The interior of the palace is characterized by a wealth of decorative elements, typical of the epoch. The central part of the interior of the palace is a hall and a spectacular staircase leading up to the 1st floor. The magnificent 2 storey ballroom with stylish interiors is based on patterns from the mid 18th century. The romance of the interiors of the residences of the Schons were to add hidden winding stairs and secret passages in the walls.</p><br>
<p>Initially, from the south and east, it was surrounded by a vast park and rocks. After the reconstruction of the center, after World War II, the park remained in remnant form and today it is a forest area, adjacent to the banks of the river.</p><br>

<p>Erected in 1900 - 1903 in eclectic style, commissioned by Oskar Schöna. The building was built on a plot, bought in 1885 by the Schön family, from Count Mortimer-Tschischky, on the bank of Black Przemsza River. The original owner was killed during the revolution in 1905. The palace was inhabited by Franz and Emma Schön.</p><br>
<p>During the First Silesian Uprising, in 1919 the building of the palace was the headquarters of the uprising with headquarters of the defense of the plebiscite, preparing the III Silesian uprising in 1921.</p><br>
<p>Spinning fires in 1907 and World War I contributed to the deterioration of the financial situation of the family, thus the palace was leased for court. In 1923 the building was adapted for the court, during the German occupation, it housed Deutsches Haus. Since 1945, it has re-established the seat of the court.</p><br>
<p>The Wilfred X. Johnson House is a historic house at 206 Tower Avenue in Hartford, Connecticut. Built in 1928, it was the home from 1966 until his death the home of Wilfred X. Johnson , the state&#39;s first African-American state representative. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Wilfred X. Johnson House is located on Hartfords north side, on the north side of Tower Avenue between Barbour and Hampton Streets. The propertys rear abuts the city&#39;s Keney Park. The house is 2-1/2 stories in height, built out of brick with wooden trim. It is covered by a hip roof that is pierced on the front by a shed-roof dormer. Single-story wings extend to either side of the main block. The front facade is three bays wide, with a center entrance sheltered by a gabled porch with cove ceiling. The entrance is flanked by pilasters that match the posts supporting the porch. The bays on either side of the entrance have tripled sash windows, while the upper floor bays have a 2-1-2 pattern of window grouping. The flanking wings each have tripled sash windows. Some of the windows retain their original diamond-pane sashes. The interior of the house follows a center hall plan.</p><br>
<p>The house was built in 1928, and is a fairly typical example of Colonial Revival architecture built at that time. In 1966 it was purchased by Wilfred and Gertrude Johnson. Wilfred Johnson, a native of Georgia, came to Hartford as a child with his parents, and was locally educated. He took a position as a messenger boy at the Hartford National Bank, rising to become the states first African-American bank teller in 1955. He was active in the local Democratic Party, and won election to the state legislature in 1958, the first African-American to do so. Gertrude Johnson was also active the party, working to achieve racial balance in the citys schools.</p><br>
